This year, UniLaSalle Beauvais will welcome the first intake of students for the Erasmus Mundus Plant Breeding Master’s, or emPLANT. To mark the occasion, UniLaSalle and its European partner universities will be running an induction week for students registered on the program. « An official ceremony will be held on Thursday August 30, with a conference on the future of crop improvement, » explains Guénolé Boulch. « Five specialists will each give a presentation, providing our future plant breeders with a broad introduction to the field. »
The program is as follows:
- Plant Breeding for a sustainable high quality food and feed supply – by Michel Dubois: Agriculture Sciences Specialist, UniLaSalle
- Role and Place of Biotechnology – by Emmanuel Lesprit (French Seed Industry Association-UFS)• Delivering innovation on the marketplace: challenges and perspectives – by Michael Keller: General Secretary, International Seed Federation (ISF)
- Germplasm protection: challenges and perspectives – by Philippe Benjamin Rivoire: Senior Program Officer, International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV)
These lectures, which will directly address some of the topics taught as part of the Master’s, will familiarize the new students with key issues. They will give the future engineers a solid educational foundation at the beginning of the academic year, on which they can build over the following months. The guest speakers will share their professional expertise with the students and highlight a variety of different aspects related to the field.
